Meet the Young Grinch

In the 2000 holiday hit, Josh Ryan Evans played the young version of the Grinch in a touching flashback scene that added depth to the character’s story. Despite being just three feet two inches tall due to achondroplasia, Evans’ passion for acting and undeniable talent shone through.

Born with a rare form of dwarfism, Evans faced many medical obstacles but found solace in his love for entertainment. He began acting at 12 years old, inspired by the television shows he watched during recovery.

For his role in The Grinch, Evans underwent hours of meticulous makeup application—spending over five hours a day transforming into the green-skinned character. Yet, he embraced the challenge with enthusiasm.

A Rising Star in Hollywood

Evans wasn’t just known for his role in The Grinch. He gained widespread recognition playing Timmy Lenox, a living doll, in the popular soap opera Passions. His performance earned him a YoungStar Award and endeared him to fans worldwide.

A Life Cut Short

Tragically, on August 5, 2002, Evans passed away at the age of 20 due to complications from a heart condition during a medical procedure. In a heartbreaking coincidence, the same day marked the airing of a Passions episode in which his character, Timmy, also died.

Plans to resurrect Timmy’s character were canceled, and the episode was dedicated to Evans’ memory. His co-star Juliet Mills described him as “a true showbiz kid” who lived for the spotlight.
