‘Squid Game’ Season 2 Has Officially Dropped on Netflix
The wait is over! The global phenomenon Squid Game has returned, with its highly anticipated second season now streaming on Netflix as of today, December 26.
What’s New in Season 2?
Set three years after the intense events of the first season, Season 2 sees Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), the sole survivor of the original games, re-enter the deadly arena.
This time, his mission is personal—he’s determined to expose the truth and confront the enigmatic Front Man (Lee Byung-hun).
According to the official synopsis:
“Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 45.6 billion won.”
Returning and New Cast Members
Familiar faces are back, including:
- Lee Jung-jae as Player 456 (Seong Gi-hun)
- Lee Byung-hun as the Front Man
- Wi Ha-jun
- Gong Yoo
Season 2 also introduces new players, portrayed by:
- Yim Si-wan
- Kang Ha-neul
- Park Gyu-young
- Lee Jin-uk
Fewer Episodes, Bigger Plans
This season consists of seven episodes, down from the nine episodes of Season 1. However, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has assured fans that this decision aligns with the story’s pacing.

“I wrote Seasons 2 and 3 at the same time, and we were in production for both simultaneously,” Hwang revealed.
