Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently shared his thoughts on a fiery Oval Office meeting with US President Donald Trump, describing the encounter as “regrettable.” The meeting, which took place last week, quickly turned heated, with Trump and Vice President JD Vance accusing Zelensky of “gambling with World War Three” and warning that Ukraine was in “big trouble.”

Zelensky’s Commitment to Peace

Despite the tense exchange, Zelensky reaffirmed Ukraine’s dedication to peace. In a post on social media, he expressed that Ukraine is ready to negotiate to end the ongoing conflict. “None of us wants an endless war,” Zelensky wrote. He emphasized that Ukraine’s team is ready to work with Trump’s leadership to bring about lasting peace.

A Potential Agreement and Peace Framework

He also addressed the planned signing of a minerals and security agreement, which was supposed to happen during the meeting. However, the argument disrupted the process. Ukraine is still willing to sign the deal at any time, viewing it as a step toward stronger security guarantees. He also outlined a potential plan for peace, including releasing prisoners, imposing a ceasefire, and halting attacks on civilian infrastructure. This proposal echoes a plan recently suggested by French President Emmanuel Macron.

The Road Ahead: US Military Aid and Negotiations

Despite Zelensky’s push for peace, tensions remain high. On Monday, Trump ordered a pause on US military aid to Ukraine, potentially affecting the country’s ability to continue fighting. The halt will remain in place until Trump sees a commitment from him to pursue peace talks.

As He and the US government navigate this strained relationship, all eyes are on whether peace talks will materialize.
