The Song that Started It All

It all started when Ariana Grande’s Sweetener album dropped, and one of the tracks on the album was subtly titled “Pete Davidson.” The two had a whirlwind romance in 2018, which included a quick engagement and eventual breakup in October of the same year.

Despite their split, they’ve maintained a playful relationship, and Ariana even opened up a bit too much at times.

In response to a fan’s inquiry about the song, Grande joked about the size of Davidson’s manhood. A fan had tweeted asking, “How long is Pete?” which they later clarified meant the song, not his physical attributes.

Grande responded humorously with: “Like 10 inches?… Oh f***… I mean… like a lil [sic] over a minute.” It was a bold and playful reference that caught everyone’s attention.

Davidson’s Response: Keeping It Humorous

Davidson, known for his quick wit, didn’t take the joke sitting down. In 2020, during a skit on Saturday Night Live, Davidson addressed the comments with his signature comedic style. He poked fun at Grande’s height and how she perceived things differently.

“I don’t like that she talked all that s*** for my penis,” Davidson joked on the show. “Everything is huge to her. Why would she tell everyone that I have a huge penis? So that every girl who sees my d*** for the rest of my life is disappointed.”

Davidson’s Thoughts on Grande’s Jokes

While Davidson may have been caught off guard by Grande’s public comments, he didn’t seem offended by them. In an interview with Charlamagne Tha God, Davidson acknowledged that he had no issue with the jokes or lyrics about him, stating: “She’s the queen of shade. I get it. That’s her job.” He added that he understood it was her form of expression and was fine with it.

Davidson also explained that comedy and stand-up were his outlets for dealing with the very public nature of their relationship. “I don’t have social media, and I don’t have an outlet really to express my feelings, so standup’s just how I do it.”

The Humor in It All

Despite the playful jabs and public discussions of their past relationship, Davidson maintained that he would never be “genuinely hurtful” in his comedy. He respects Grande’s right to express herself through her music, but still wants to express his own feelings in his unique way.

It’s clear that the ex-couple, who once had one of Hollywood’s most talked-about romances, continue to maintain a sense of humor about their relationship and its public nature.
