The Big Reveal
Musk, 53, posted a festive photo of himself dressed as Santa Claus on his social platform X, formerly Twitter. With a flowing white beard, he humorously captioned the image:
“Ozempic Santa — Like Cocaine Bear, but Santa and Ozempic!”
He quickly added a clarification:
“Technically, Mounjaro, but that doesn’t have the same ring to it.”

What Is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro, like its more well-known counterpart Ozempic, belongs to a class of drugs called GLP-1 inhibitors. Originally developed for managing blood sugar and insulin levels in diabetics, these medications have become a popular weight-loss option in the U.S.
Musk explained his preference for Mounjaro, citing its effectiveness and fewer side effects compared to Ozempic. He joked about his experience with Ozempic:
“High doses of [Ozempic] made me fart & burp like Barney from The Simpsons. Mounjaro seems to have fewer side effects and be more effective.”
A Broader Advocacy for GLP-1 Drugs
Musk has been vocal about the potential of GLP-1 inhibitors in addressing America’s obesity epidemic. He’s even discussed their importance as part of broader healthcare reform.
However, his stance has sparked debate, particularly with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the incoming Health and Human Services Secretary in President-elect Donald Trump’s administration. While Musk champions medication, Kennedy advocates for dietary changes and healthier eating habits as a more sustainable solution.

Support from Unexpected Places
Even with the debate, Musk has gained support from notable figures like Whoopi Goldberg. On The View and The Kelly Clarkson Show, Goldberg, 69, revealed her personal success with weight-loss shots, saying:
“Elon’s right on this. It’s been really good for me.”
Goldberg shared that she once weighed nearly 300 pounds and credited GLP-1 inhibitors for helping her achieve a healthier weight.
Musk’s Personal Journey
This isn’t Musk’s first encounter with weight-loss medications. In 2022, he admitted to using Wegovy, another GLP-1 drug, to jumpstart his transformation.

As Musk continues his advocacy for these drugs, he also steps into a new role as head of the Department of Governmental Efficiency in the Trump administration. His position is expected to bring GLP-1 inhibitors further into the spotlight.
The Future of Weight Loss
Musk’s openness about his transformation and his advocacy for GLP-1 drugs could signal a shift in how weight loss is approached in the U.S. With medications like Mounjaro and Ozempic gaining popularity, the conversation around obesity solutions is more relevant than ever.
