The lawsuit, which includes allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior, has placed the actor-director in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
Background on It Ends With Us
The Colleen Hoover adaptation, released in August, was a massive success, earning over $350 million worldwide on a modest $25 million budget. The film explores complex themes of love and abuse, with Lively starring as Lily Bloom and Baldoni as her abusive partner, Ryle Kincaid.
While the film triumphed at the box office, tensions between Lively and Baldoni reportedly marred its production and promotional events.
The Allegations
Lively’s lawsuit reveals that issues with Baldoni began even before filming:
- Creative Disputes: Baldoni allegedly pushed for “gratuitous” nudity and explicit sex scenes, which Lively objected to.
- Invasive Behavior: The actor reportedly asked Lively highly personal questions about her private life, including details about her relationship with Reynolds.

The lawsuit also claims Baldoni engaged in inappropriate conversations on set, including discussions about pornography addiction and sexual conquests.
Lively’s statement to The New York Times reads:
“I hope that my legal action helps pull back the curtain on these sinister retaliatory tactics… and helps protect others who may be targeted.”
Ryan Reynolds’ Bold Move
Reynolds attended a critical meeting in January 2024 to address Lively’s concerns. During this meeting, Lively reportedly set firm boundaries for Baldoni, including:
- No more showing explicit images or videos to her.
- No discussions of sexual topics or personal inquiries.
- Sticking to the script approved at the start of the project.

In a surprising move, Reynolds also blocked Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, on Instagram after the film wrapped.
The Fallout
Baldoni, reportedly alarmed by Reynolds’ actions, expressed concerns over the potential impact on the film’s promotion. Alleged emails and texts between Baldoni, his publicist, and crisis management team detail a campaign aimed at discrediting Lively during the press tour.
In his response to the lawsuit, Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, dismissed the allegations as:
“Completely false, outrageous, and intentionally salacious with an intent to publicly hurt.”
Freedman also claimed the lawsuit was an attempt to fix Lively’s “negative reputation.”

The Broader Implications
This legal battle has sparked a larger conversation about workplace conduct in the entertainment industry. Lively’s lawsuit, coupled with Reynolds’ support, has highlighted the importance of standing up against misconduct.
As the case unfolds, fans and industry professionals alike are watching closely, hoping this will pave the way for safer, more respectful working environments in Hollywood.
